Prince Edward Island, March 26, 2009 – It’s cookie time!  Island Guiding Members will soon be selling classic chocolate and vanilla Girl Guide cookies in communities across the Island.

This year, Guiding members will also be selling cookies for donation to your local food banks.  Islanders can purchase a box to be donated, and Girl Guides will ensure that the donations go to the food bank in your community. 

This spring also marks the First Annual Great Cookie Munch Off.  All Islanders are invited to join the 1st PEI Rangers Unit for the campaign kick-off at the Winner's Circle (in front of Winners and Sport Chek) at the Charlottetown Mall this Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.  There will be lots of fun activities for children and even a life-size talking cookie vending machine.  At 2pm there will be a Munch-Off - a fun cookie-eating contest.  Everyone is welcome!

Cookies are $4 per box, and all proceeds go to supporting Girl Guide programs.  Guiding offers the widest range of activities of any extra-curricular program — sports, science and technology, camping, the arts, community projects, international travel — there’s something for everyone.  All Guiding programs and activities are designed to encourage girls to reach their potential, to give back to their communities and to become independent, kind, caring and confident individuals.

 With almost 110,000  Members, Girl Guides is the largest organization for girls in Canada.
